(107283981)

The hotel has been refurbished and the rooms were excellent, they had real nice bathrooms and massive beds they were spot on.You couldnt get a more central hotel, all the staff were great too, we stayed in the bar til 4am and they were still happy to serve us. A great hotel, central, clean, a quick check in, everything was great theres not a bad word to say about this hotel.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 18 September 2008
Hotel okay but a bit overpriced even at a discount rate. Recently refurbished but didn't see much evidence of this. Staff pleasant and helpful. Needs an overhaul in furniture and fittings to match other local hotels
(107174542)

Central, breakfast hot, plenty of choice.

Room and bedroom floor level fumey, possibly from cars/vans. Executive room used but not really in that bracket. Had to recheck on room allocation when first checking in as was given just a double room by mistake. No car parking. Shower quite cantankerous and difficult to work
Jayne from Cleveleys, GB (Group of adult friends) 27 August 2008
Excellent

initially booked a double room, but then called to see if we could change to a family room. The staff at the hotel were excellent and accommodated us swiftly and without complications

A clean, comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. All facilities fully adequate and generally very good value for money. Excellent location for city sights, theatres and restaurants.
(97555270)

Excellent location, value for money

Hopeless instructions to drive to it. Very easy to find from ring road, but impossible to find through the city streets. Breakfast in restaurant was much better than when served in the bar.
Kay from Wakefield, GB (Group of adult friends) 14 February 2008
I have no complaints about this hotel- the staff were so helpful when I got lost in the city centre en route, and the room was very comfortable with a lovely big bathroom. The bar is open late and the place has a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
I wasn't able to take advantage of breakfast sadly, but I will next time I visit!
(97544229)

Lovely room- the huge bed was very impressive! Wished I could have stayed in it longer!
Anonymous (Mature couple) 27 January 2008
Site states some parking on site but in reality there isn't - reliant on nearby NCP which is very busy.
(97450559)

Clean room, good reception service. Room reasonably appointed, good TV reception and free WIFI.

No cold water for 1st 30 minutes! No car parking & nearest NCP was full so had to pay £11.50 to park overnight. Service at breakfast was poor. Carpet on stairs threadbare. WIFI was on unsecured site.

pleasant and helpful staff

Unfortunately the shower in our room wasnt as clean as I would have expected, but the rest of the room was spotless
Norbert from Budapest, HU (Solo business traveller) 26 October 2007
The hotel is situated near to the heart of the city, with close access to the railway station and the public transportation.
The interior of the room shows an interesting mixture of the nice new furnitures and the old, very used carpets, bathroom. The room is tried to keep clean, but the general appearance has a 'ready-to-refurbishment' feeling.
(97714370)

The performance of the hotel staff was really excellent.
There was a big LCD TV in the room.
The bed was comfortable.

There was a door between the next room and mine, so the noise insulation was zero.
The condition of the bathroom was quite poor. The washstand was outside of the bathroom.
The breakfast area was quite limited considering the number of the rooms in the hotel.

Location and cost

Windows were open and too high to be closed

The standard of the hotel was probably OK for the price charged in the centre of Sheffield but it would be difficult to recommend it as somwewhere enjoyable to stay -particularly because of the external noise
(97478543)

The helpfulness of the staff

The disturbing external noise of lorries in the early hours

Replace the worn stair carpet - it looks very bad to have frayed carpet in such a public area!

Good value; centrally located; friendly staff; good breakfast!

TV obtrusive in room; get a flat panel or put it on a shelf!

Accommodation was clean and staff friendly. Great central location.

Probably because of the central location I found it quite noisy. Cars tooting horns, garbage trucks in the early hours and street cleaners at 6 am. Did not get much sleep.

Staff extremely helpful and friendly, made us feel very welcome. Room, despite being too hot in the afternoon was just right and well appointed. Breakfast was good also, and was included in booking price.
(99045752)

Recently refurbished room, with large HD TV. Bed comfortable, excellent shower.

Room too hot in afternoon, windows inadequate for ventilation; room had not been vacuumed.
Diane from Grimsby, GB (Mature couple) 20 May 2007
Hotel was very nice no complaints only the bathroom could of done with a refit otherwise everything was ok. Nothing was to much troulbe for the staff and we even got discount for parking the car in a public carpark.
(99796782)

It was central to everything

We thought the room could of been updated, the shower room was very small and the shower didnt work very good.

Staff were pleasant, but seemingly incompetent. Regular staff have no access to 'housekeeping supplies' when houskeeping staff are out of hotel. Ridiculous.I didnt expect the Ritz, but basic supplies should be a minimum, toilet roll and shower gel PLEASE!!!
(99484725)

Breakfast was very good.

No toilet roll left on 1 eening, no shower gel on another evening. On both occasions I asked staff to provide, both times I was promised and nothing materialised.
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 19 April 2007
As I was looikng for somewhere I could use as a base for visiting friends in Sheffield, Cutlers had everything I needed- a comfortable room, smiling staff, clean bathroom and proximity to transport and shops. I had no occasion to use the bar or restaurant.
(99331531)

It is extremely convenient for central Sheffield. The check-in staff were welcoming and efficient.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 10 April 2007
The Hotel has recently increased its prices, and is not such good value as it previously was. It is however still one of the cheapest places to stay in Sheffield and the breakfast is excellent. The concessionary fee at the nearby Car Park is valuable (

The hotel is very close to the car park with drop-off facilities. The room was not quite ready so we checked in and left our luggage at reception. When we returned later, our luggage had been taken to our room. The food was excellent as were the staff. Very close to the city centre shopping area which was ideal as we were Christmas shopping.
I have no complaints at all about this hotel or the booking process.

This hotel is currently being refurbished and as such you may find some amenities missing. Our room contained no TV or phone although this wasn't really a problem. The room was comfortable and spotless. Although the bathroom could have done with some refurbishment it was clean. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We thought that this was very good value for money when you consider that breakfast is thrown in (and the food quality was good.
The only real downside is the amount of external noise which started at 4:00am and got gradually worse unitl about 7:30. To be fair though this is not the hotel's fault and there is probably little they can do about it other than talk to the local council. If you've got a heavy day infront of you then this hotel is probably not for you. Otherwise give it a go it's worth the money.

We were made very welcome and it is obviously a hotel used for visitors to the local theatres which are only 3 minutes walk away. We didnot realize how near it was to the local High Street, which is very busy, but suprisingly the area was not as noisy as you would expect for a town centre hotel.
(3304920585)

A good friendly hotel in an excellent position for shopping, theatres and public transport.

We visited at a very hot time of the year and the room was very uncomfortable with no fresh air or air conditioning.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 21 June 2006
The room was grubby and smelt stale. The shower did not work and the water was alternately cold or boiling. The room was hot and stuffy and it was not possible to open the window more than a fraction. The colour was a lurid yellow. There was a huge uproar at 5:00 am (with the simple emptying of bins?) that lasted minutes and woke everyone on that side of the hotel. On the other hand the staff were pleasant and most helpful

Overall, the hotel requires updating. Dated decor etc. Did not use the bar but the downstairs bistro for breakfast can accommodate about 50 people, not good for a hotel with that many rooms. We had breakfast at 09:00 and the staff could not cope with the numbers. There was a long wait for the food and many orders appeared to be getting mixed up
(3304675389)

Central, easy to find

Room in need of decoration/updating. Poor bathroom facilities, toilet did not flush properly

The interior is dated and in need of refurbishment. The shower was extremely difficult to operate. The lift was noisy at night.

the steps were a problem for me personally.i use a wheelchair most of the time and would not have booked if i had known about the steps outside and to the bistro, where breakfast was served. the staff were helpful by taking me back to my floor by goods lift!
