As good if not better than the last time we stayed overnight two years ago
(107469774)

Obvious signs of refurbishment and nice new bathroom. The cooked breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly.

Wardrobe door off its hinges and almost fell on me (did report this to the owenrs). A small table was also very unsafe. The bathroom floor needed wiping around the edges.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 13 October 2008
Very good given the price. Staff went out their way to make it a pleasant stay.
(107784133)

Excellent service & allowed me to check out later than normal which made life much easier given the circumstances of my visit.
Beautiful setting in beautiful part of the city close to the Cathedral/old town and modern centre , but quietly secluded.

Questionable noise insulation. Other guests woke me at 5am talking in the corridor.
This was not the fault of the staff.
Anonymous (Young couple) 10 October 2008
Excellent - would definitely stay again. The hotel is only 10 mins walk from the historic part of the City, and is nicely decorated to preserve its original character. Pretty pricey at 91.00 GBP for a couple for the night on only a B&B basis, but then again, all the hotels in Lincoln are and some you wouldn't want to stay in again!
(107559706)

The hotel and our recently refurbished room were clean, everywhere looked fresh and modern, the heating was available 24 hours a day if required (and it was a cold and rainy weekend!), and there was loads of hot water. Breakfast was also excellent - cereals, juice, full English main course, toast and tea. Proprietors very friendly and couldn't do enough to help.

Not good. O.K. for one nights stay.
(97677742)

Nice big room. Excellent views.

No hot water. Just luke warm. Mirror did not stay tilted when re positioning it. No trouser press. Room too hot and stuffy.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 02 September 2008
Enjoyed the stay and would return.
(107151318)

Good service and well located for all amenities of Lincoln with a great view.

Room decor was shabby but hotel in general was clean. At present the hotel is in the middle of being re-decorated.

Excellent for our purpose of attending a family wedding in Lincoln
(107166189)

Quiet. Lovely gardens. Fantastic breakfast.
Good small bar and lounge area. Friendly and helpful staff.

None really. Stairs added to the character of the hotel. Front door tended to bang loudly when used.

We had a really lovely three days at Hillcrest Hotel in Lincoln.
(108083472)

The hotel was in a perfect location; very quiet but close to the cathedral quarter with all its shops and restaurants and close to the beautiful arboretum park. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and all the staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money.

The decor in the hotel was a bit dated although well kept. The lack of a lift was no problem for us on our stay but some people might find the stairs difficult.

The owners and staff were very pleasant and friendly. The food was was well cooked and presented however the choice was fairly limited.

On-suite bathroom rather small with nowhere to put wash things etc.

We were only there for one night and our stay was fine beakfast was good and we had parking which was a plus. We have been in UK 3 weeks and this was the most money we have spent for a nights stay with not the best facilities we have had but also we realise we were there for only one night on a bank holiday weekend.
(97858206)

The position was really good to catch up with family, the garden looked lovely from the conservatory

The shower was less than good with the shower curtain a pain but it didn't spoil the stay as we only had one night
Anonymous (Young couple) 27 May 2008
Get a taxi from the station for this one because it's too steep a hill when you've got luggage and/or arthritic knees. No lift either. Those things aside, the place is faultless and when we are next in Lincoln, we will definitely be booking to stay there. The owners had only been in situ for ten weeks when we stayed so it was all the more impressive that they'd already got things so spot on. The views from the lounge/restaurant/conservatory are to die for!
(97493268)

Tranquil surroundings. Friendly staff.

Hill climbing to get there!
Shelagh from Halifax, GB (Solo leisure traveller) 25 May 2008
The Staff were very friendly, particularly at breakfast. The breakfast itself was very good, and the location of the dining room overlooking ther garden was excellent. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen was white and clean. The website provided all the information I needed prior to booking, and the fact that there was free wireless internet access influenced my decision to stay at the hotel. At the beginning of 2008 I stayed in a much more expensive hotel in Lincoln where parking and internet were extra, and breakfast was buffet style and was over-cooked. Hillcrest was value for money. I will definately book in again.
(97580451)

Access to city centre. Comfortable bed with clean white linen. Quiet location and lovely views.

The bathroom could have been a little cleaner, as could the carpet in the bedroom.
Carolyn from Nottingham, GB (Mature couple) 08 May 2008
The first room we were taken to had not been cleaned, the bed was unmade, towels were thrown across the bathroom floor, dirty cups plus unmentionables in the waste bin.
We were shown to a different room which was tiny but at least it had been cleaned. We were later asked if we wanted to move to a larger room, which we did but the bathroom was not good. The shower did not work very well at all as it only provided a very light spray of water and there was a lot of mould around the bottom of the cubicle.
The cost of this room was £91 which we believe to be very over charged being as there were other higher star hotels near to Steep Hill that were at £85 and the accomodation looked a lot cleaner.
The reviews I read before going did not reflect our findings and we would definately not stay there again.
(97551862)

The food was good

The cleanliness and decoration
Beryl from Cromer, GB (Mature couple) 08 May 2008
I would have liked to have had a choice of a ground floor room as there were a lot of stairs both down to the bar/restaurant and up to my room - although I am a fairly fit 68 year old I found it a bit hard going, otherwise thoroughly charming and recommendable.
(97884691)

within walking distance of city attractions but quiet, relaxing with a lovely view, attentive staff and extremely good food.

a lot of stairs, bathroom a bit antiquated
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) 22 April 2008
I have stayed at the Hillcrest many times over the past 20 years and with the new owners so very new there are changes being made and everything is in a transitional state. I did hope for a room without stairs,as my mobility is not very good just now,but there were 3 steps down to it and 3 steps up to the new bathroom. The only mirror was in the bathroom and there was no telephone. I'm not sure that this room had been used as a guest room previously.
The owners were most friendly and helpful and if I do return to Lincoln, whose hills begin to defeat me, I will be staying there again.
I was in Lincoln for family history purposes - research and a meeting.

Derek from Kenton, GB (Mature couple) 10 April 2008
The previous owners of the Hillcrest lacked vision, and this still shows in the twee nature of the decor. The new owners have the opportunity to make it into a quality small hotel, and they appear to have the intention of doing so.
(97272534)

Location, enthusiasm of the new owners, ambiance

bathroom dull and basic, general boarding house feel
eric from wigan, GB (Mature couple) 06 April 2008
While we really enjoyed our stay in the hotel I felt that the weekend rate for the hotel was too high for the current standard of accomodation.
The bar, dining room and conservatory were to a good standard and the experience of the evening meal was very pleasent.
The en suite bathroom was very dated, small and required refurbishment. E.g shower did not work, expel air ventilation very noisy, toilet difficult to flush, sink cracked.
The hotel had just changed hands and the new owners are working hard to bring it up to the standard required.
(97930276)

The hotel manager and wife were very friendly.
The food was good, and the evening meal was a pleasant experience.
Good location to vist the castle end of the city.
Quiet location with nice walk in the arboritum below the hotel.
In the summer months during a meal in the conservatory there would be good views over the park into town

Poor bathroom.
Bedroom required updating.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 02 April 2008

Would have preferred duvets rather than sheets & blankets.
The room was clean and warm but the standard would be raised greatly by redecoration in plain colours, tiling the shower rather than plastic lining and some bigger, fresher looking towels.
(97627225)

It was warm. The proprietor was very friendly and welcoming. Security was good. Very convenient for town and the hospital. Nice view. Excellent breakfast.

The decor was jaded. The room felt like a bed a breakfast room rather than a hotel.

David from Boston, GB (Young couple) 19 October 2007
The hotel is perfectly situated in order to sample the old and the new in Lincoln. Comfortable, clean, helpful, pleasant staff with breakfast included. Good value for money.
(97674604)

The view from our room was beatiful, the Arboritum in autumn is a real delight!

The uninspiring shower room, particularly the mould on the shower curtain!
Ronald from Cambridge, GB (Mature couple) 13 October 2007
When we arrived on Sunday 7 October 2007 we were supprised that the dinning room was not open on Sundays but we did not think this would be a problem as the litrature in the room stated that bar snacks were available from 7pm to 9pm 7 days a week. To our dismay we found that only sandwiches were available as no chef was on duty that evening. A complaint was made by me to management the next morning.

We booked a twin beded room but got a double bed and also a single bed in the room.

I think the hotel is fine for a short stay to view the city. Its clean and quite convenient. The staff are pleasant but not always available. Still well worth the money I think and the breakfast's are very good.
(99930316)

I have stayed there before and it is a very convenient and pleasant place to stay, but more of a B & B than a hotel.

It has a smell of cooking which is pretty grim and quite dated.
