warm welcome from the owners, good location, excellent quality of the breakfast with locally sourced produce

We loved it and would certainly return. The simple adjustments that could be made to the bathroom would certainly be welcome but would not stop us from visiting again. The rooms are very well positioned it is very nice to be independant. The hosts were absolutely delightful and extremely helpful. Breakfast wonderful - healthly and thoughfully presented.
(3305032826)

We found everything to our liking - it was very quiet and discreet. Quite elegant in a really nice way.

We did have a problem with the shower which needed updating to a thermostat type as water would be scalding if being used elsewhere.
Also a man must have designed the bathroom! - not enough shelving or hooks. It would have been simple to have put 2/3 shelves above the loo - desparately needed for ladies who need to place their lotions and potions somewhere.
Malcolm from Ravensden, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 26 August 2006
The stay was most enjoyable. We went to Devon to search for a permanent home and when the owners found that we were successful they organised a small celebration and hoped that we would consider them as our first friends in Devon - indeed we will!
What a wonderful small Hotel in which to stay, I could not recommend it more highly.
(3305069505)

Everything was as it should be, very quiet with a relaxing atmosphere

It would have been nice to have a small area where one could smoke indoors
Stephen from Sheffield, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 15 August 2006
This hotel is very welcoming, offers peace, quiet, excellent accomodation and a superb breakfast. The location on the edge of a very quiet village is quite beautiful. Would recommend to anyone who wants to get away from it all, but still be in close proximity to centres such as Bideford and the north Devon coastline.

Apart from the shower everything else was excellent. Lovely countryside position with excellent service in a comfortable hotel. Excellent breakfast - the first time I have found scrambled eggs cooked properly in a hotel.

Very clean and comfortable

The electric shower - poor flow of water

I would have liked to be aware of quite how busy the area is and how little parking and meal reservations are available at the time of year.(July) It was very frustrating to have to ring around and be turned down, nor could I find parking in the local village of Instow to make enquiries on foot.
The Pines is a great place to stay for peace, quiet and lovely surroundings. The hosts are most friendly and helpful, and the breakfast alone is worth a visit.
(3305079514)

The peaceful setting, warmth and friendliness of hosts, excellent breakfast.

After a long car journey, it was a little far to travel to find an evening meal.
chris from London, United Kingdom;GB (Mature couple) 19 June 2006

Austin from Bristol, United Kingdom;GB (Young couple) 26 May 2006
If you're travelling around Bideford, Appledore, Clovelly and that area, then this is an ideal spot. It's far enough out of town to feel relaxing but only a 10 minute drive away from Bideford. We had a good introduction to the area when we checked in and the bag pixies spirited away our luggage to our room whilst we chatted. It was a bit windswept when we were there, but the open views are great when the sun shines.
(3304606093)

The location is lovely and a good jumping off point for local beauty spots and attractions. The services was excellent and we were always met with a smile.

Although excellent, it was perhaps slightly more expensive than other similar accomodation that we have stayed at.
Linda from Newmarket, Canada;CA (Mature couple) 26 May 2006
The Pines is situated at the top of the hill but there is no view. There are sheep in the field close by. The gardens are wonderfully well kept with a soothing pond. Breakfast was served in the main house and the hosts served everything farm fresh from the surrounding farms. Delicious! We enjoyed an evening walk along the sea front watching the tide coming in which was a short drive by car from the Pines. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Thank you!
(3304620898)

Lovely separate accommodation in the coach house where although the road runs right behind, we were not disturbed by traffic. The hosts were very accommodating directing us to some lovely restaurants for our evening meal.

The heating went off late evening and although there were enough coverings on the bed to make sure we were warm, the bed covers were heavier than we are used to.

Disappointed that there was no Dinner available but there were good facilities nearby.Apart from this and the appalling shower in the room ( Impossible to control the temperature and inadequate water flow), the comfort and facilities were good.

The oxners are extemley professional and are warm + welcoming. The breakfast is excellent with local fresh produce used. The whole builing is in excellent order and the rooms are well proportioned. They are postioned in aay that you do not feel on top of everyone else.

This was a very pleasurable stay, the hotel was clean, comfortable and inviting, I would not hesitate in recommending this to friends and family.
Thank you for a lovely stay, its a shame i was only there the one evening.
(2557397)

Very homely, made you feel very welcome. With experience as travelling on my own for business, i was made to feel very comfortable.

If anything, a larger sign could be placed at the entrance, but the directions given were very useful. Not much else they can improve on.

In general, an excellent small hotel for a long weekend break if one is looking for peace and quiet. However, the the location is within easy driving distance of many of North Devon attractions, with excellent walks and beaches close by. With many good pubs and restaurants within 20 minutes drive one is spoilt for choice for eating and drinking. The owners of the hotel were very helpful in providing maps, directions and information on the local area.
(2309913)

Comfortable, peaceful, clean family run hotel. Service - efficient, attentive and very helpful but not over intrusive. Excellent breakfast.

Very little but to be very critical the room was slightly on the small side and the shower was not the most powerful. Howerver, as stated above the room was very comfortable and emaculately clean.

We were greeted with tea and mince pies and our hosts chatted and found out what we were doing and what information and advice we needed. Guide books and maps were lent for walks. It was particularly nice to have the run of garden, fields and the use of table tennis equipment. It was necessary to drive or take a taxi to a pub or restaurant, though in summer and good weather it would be possible to walk (about 1.5 miles) to nearest pub.
(1773892)

Lovely personal service from friendly hosts. Lots of local advice and information. Excellent breakfast.

It didn't cause us a problem, but the hot water was extremely hot. Guests with children would have to be very careful.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at this beautiful house with such hospitable owners. The food was wonderful, home made bread and yoghurt and excellent local produce. The view from the house over N. Devon to Bideford Bay was lovely. The guest lounge and selection of drinks was much appreciated. We even enjoyed a real open fire during breakfast on one nasty morning - in August! Highly recommended.

Friendly family run hotel in beautiful countryside but very near to sea and main A roads. Lovely garden and orchard in which to relax. Comfortable lounge with well-stocked bar. Cloase to many interesting coastal towns and villages. Room has tv with teletext, radio and drink making facilities. The family who run it can tell you everything you need to know about where to go and what the weather is likely to be like depending on which direction you go. Excellent spot for North Corwall and South Devon coast.
