Quiet Location

I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying up in the local region. With good rooms, pleasent staff and excellent food to choose from then this is a sure winner for anyone. I stayed for two nights and both nights I slept well and ate well too.

It was a nice room, comfy bed and decent shower.

The peacocks waking me up at three in the morning!
Mike from Barnard Castle, GB (Mature couple) 20 June 2007
Staff very helpful and obliging but no-one had looked at our room objectively before we arrived eg. heating not on, toilet roll on last legs, only one hand towel. Accomodation not up to scratch although we believe upgrading is in course. Cuisine was good pub grub but we had expected more from reviews on website. We could not recommend at this time but we would like to try again when refurbishment complete.
(99036813)

The view and the peacocks. Bed linen and towels scrupulously clean.

Confetti in room, no hooks on which to hang dressing gowns, no glasses for water, nowhere to hang/leave toothbrushes. I understand that the hotel is due to be refurbished - it certainly needs it!
alan from ulverston, GB (Mature couple) 30 May 2007
The brochure covered everything exept the peacocks on the lawn

lovely building and setting but room and bathroom needed an upgrade to qualify for the fairly high price tag compared with other accomodation I stay at in UK and Ireland. (about 120 nights per annum) having said all of above would not recommend but would probably stay again if they had an upgraded room

Only the bathroom, it needs a little work and get rid of the carpet! other than that a very nice room and pleasent stay.

This was an overnight stay however we would definitely stay again for longer since the hotel is in a good location for visiting the northern part of the lake district. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Dinner was very tasty with a good selection and generous portions while there was also a good value wine list. Breakfast was cooked to order and the choice would cater for most tastes. It was a pity that the weather was wet when we visited because there was a lovely garden area with seating which would be perfect on a balmy evening.
(3304631113)

Our room (10) had a tremendous view over the gardens and on to the countryside and hills beyond. The room and the public areas were very comfortable.

Nothing.

It was in a beautiful setting, a wonderful view to wake up to in the mornings. Gardens and Hotel very well maintained.

Making sure all supplies were in the rooms, i.e, Milk, coffee and tea we couldn't make a morning cuppa as there was no milk but we were only staying one night, if were staying longer we would of mentioned it. Generally everything was very nice.

After confirmation of booking the Manager called to say that unfortunately the room I had booked was damaged by recent bad weather and was unavailable. He recommended another room which, though I would have preferred the room originally booked, I accepted. The food was good and plentiful and the waiting staff polite and professional. The cost though competitive will always be a bone of contention in all hotels due to the single supplement that is charged for. The Manager was helpful when I mentioned certain food allergies and it was great that no issue was made of this as has been in some establishments. Overall Broughton Craggs is a great place to unwind and the location is ideal. I have already recommended the hotel to friends and will definately return when time allows.
(2803028)

It was quiet and relaxing.I was not hassled by management, staff, or guests. The room was comfortable and not cluttered.

On arrival the room was very hot with the radiators on full. I would suggest to have them on very low this would enable the guest to adjust as required. The TV/video is a great idea but I was dissappointed that the TV was only tuned to three channels. I meant to query this but forgot. When low season no single supplement is an advantage as there are more single travellers now than ever before.

Beware of the peacocks' noise, however the hotel was good and the breakfast menu very comprehensive. A lovely setting with
beautiful views and grounds, very popular for weddings.
(2101251)

Lovely setting, spacious room, good directions to get there.

Please keep the peacocks away from the rooms' windows at night - being woken up at 4.30 by half a dozen very noisy peacocks
right under the window is far from ideal. If the children had been small babies, this would have resulted in a very bad night indeed.
Also, the shower gard was quite dirty. Finally, a small soap to wash your hands with would be welcomed.
Anonymous (Solo business traveller) 17 June 2005
Access was via a single lane road, which may cause problems in the winter months. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The whole area was very peaceful, but the peacocks in the grounds were rather noisey on the dawn corus!

Well run hotel and lovely views from room window

Possibly too many Peacocks in the grounds which woke me up in the wee hours of the morning (5am) on one of the two days that I stayed in the hotel.

On-line booking worked well, and having driven for 7 hours to reach the hotel it was nice to be greeted by friendly staff and no queries about the booking.
The evening meals were excellent with a wide choice, and there was also a good variety at breakfast.
My one minor criticism would be that the TV in our room did not have Tele Text, which I tend to rely on when away from home to get up-to-date information.

overall the hotel was nice and relaxing, the host was very attentive, maybe more entertainments could be arranged, and the decoration could do with upgrading.Although the food was very good, maybe you could consider silver service to compiment the food. Also found tea and coffee facilities could have been better, maybe better selection of tea and coffee, and also fresh fruit and flowers.Overall though stay was enjoyable and we would probably stay here again.

Much better then the ususal characterless hotels I normally stay in. I was made to feel so welcome the place has a real honest homely feel. Every one should stay at this hotel Peter and Sandra were loverly. I will certainly be going back next time I'm in the area for Business.
Thank you so much for a short but very welcomming stay. A+
Kind regards Dean Barker

Hotel well located just off the A66. The host and food were both excellent - my evening meal was a great mixed grill and was one the best I've had. Also, th ebreakfast was not buffet style which was great although tea & coffee was from a machine - woul dbe better if tae & coffee were in pots.
Very genial host.
My bedroom looked very tired and I presume I was in a room that had not been refurbished.
