Adequate

Staff very good. Good with the children

Room was cold. TV reception poor. Evening meal large but not great. No vegetarian main course option
Pauline from Basildon, GB (Mature couple) 19 February 2010
Fairly good - would return to area but not to that particular hotel
(108617932)

Accommodation/hotel clean, staff pleasant, in the main helpful. Fresh towels everyday.

Hotel room too cold, poor heating system. Unable to get basic meal on 2 nights - Sat (due to Valentine's Night special event - no other food being served) and on Sun evening (closed). Breakfast finishing time too early - some people (like us on a break) like to have a lie in, as most other mornings we have to get up early
pierre from De Pinte, BE (Mature couple) 10 December 2009
nice spacious room (the Poster). Recommendable to those looking for a quiet but remote place (nearest restaurant is miles away).
Be aware that the restaurant and pub are closed on Sunday night.
(108689565)

the actual room we ended up in was nice. The internet connection was Ok and free of charge. Breakfast was fine but the breakfast room was uncomfortably cold (heating in the bedroom however was very good).

the assigned room was not cleaned (without the staff realising).
rita from Beverley, Yorkshire, GB (Mature couple) 13 October 2009

It suited our needs for 1 night and the food was good.
(108477856)

Atmosphere and food are excellent. Staff are friendly and obliging.

Some furniture and furnishings and fittings need to be replaced. The shower curtain pole fell down when the curtain was drawn without hardly moving it. Cleanliness could be improved upon.
Anonymous (Mature couple) 07 September 2009
Adequate for our needs and fair to good value.
(108734745)

Friendly, polite staff. Good food. Ideal venue for our dog to accompany us.Easy place to find and good location for touring the area.

The proximity of the main road is a little noisy at times.
Karen from Oxford, GB (Mature couple) 27 August 2009
Enjoyed it very much and have recommended the hotel to friends and family.
(107969540)

Very friendly staff, excellent food in the restaurant and bar. The setting is lovely. Enjoyed the four poster bed - it made our weekend very special

Initially a bit wary of the dog - but it wasn't a problem.

The young members of staff were excellent and the restaurant food was very good quality and well presented. Probably the best beef sandwich I've ever bought.

restaurant "last orders" was a little early for us but they did actually respond and produce food which was nice.

(107634265)

Location was close to where we were visiting, Staff were helpful in arranging a Taxi, good English breakfast

There was an oversight on our behalf, we didn't realise that the Red lion was shut at 4 - 5pm on a sunday as we had to find an alterantive venue to have our evening meal

Not very good. Spoilt was should of been a special night celebrating birthday
(97653855)

Pleasant staff who reduced the cost due to the problems as we did not get our four poster room as booked as the hotel had over booked. Breakfast good quality but not offered a second cup of coffee or any more toast.

Hotel over booked our room that we had booked. Very disapointed with room given. Mould on tiles in shower, was a disabled room. Bed very hard like sleeping on a board

good check in, room available, clean etc.

no mirror in bedroom for hair dryer, no full length mirror in bedroom, only mirror in bathroom with no facility for hair dryer. I was going to a wedding and wanted to do my hair before, luckily my daughter had another room with a mirror and power point, otherwise I would have been very angry.

Melvyn from Shoreham By Sea, GB (Mature couple) 23 April 2008
We both enjoyed our stay at The Old Red Lion, the Management and staff are all very frendly. When we arrived to check in at 15.30 hrs the pub was all locked up and I had to phone them on my mobile from the car park to get them to let us in. Whilst the food was very good,I did have a problem in that I asked if the toast that was served with with the Full English could be replaced with fried bread but was told that they could not do this.( not sure why )
(97186011)

The hotel was very clean and the staff were all very good.

No flexability with menu. The breakfast was very good but I asked for fried bread instead of toast with my full English but was told that this would not be possible.

Victor from Sawbridgeworth, GB (Mature couple) 24 November 2007
I would have liked to have known that the bathroom had no heating for a start, especially in the middle of November. Also, i am over 6ft tall, and the room had a sloping ceiling on one side. Everytime i went over to that side of the room i bashed my head. I didnt see anywhere on the website about sloping ceilings, or i would have asked for a room without them. I didnt feel as if they were ready for our stay, but it is a lovely place, the room was well equipped: tv, tea & coffee making facilities etc, and the breakfast was superb.
This hotel would be great in the summertime, but even better in winter if they could sort out their heating problem !!
(97897444)

Great location, easy access, superb breakfast !

When we got into the room, all the windows were wide open, & it was freezing. ( this was the middle of November ). Thankfully, i got the heater to work in the main room, but could not turn the heated towel rail on in the bathroom, which was absolutely freezing. I asked a member of staff if they could look at it, only to be told that it didnt work, in fact not many of them did ! He said he would come & look at it, but he didnt.
Roland from BOLTON, GB (Mature couple) 22 November 2007
Hotel was quite adequate for our purpose. But there was no guidance about the heating system. Ceilings a bit low if you are over 5' 10! We would go again.
(97659006)

Friendly staff, good evening meals. Nice ambience in the Restaurant

Room heating took a while to sort out. Breakfast was a bit basic; but this is a rural area. Some electrical items needed replacing in our room. (Lamps, switches)
