Local Attractions near Biocasamia

  • Main Square in Bologna (0.99 km) -

  • Two Towers, Bologna (1.26 km) - Bologna's Two Towers are the symbol of the city. They were built as a result of a feud between two Bolognese families regarding who could build the highest. The Asinelli family won and you can climb the narrow steps right to the top of the leaning Torre Asinelli, from where the view of Bologna's re-topped roofs is stunning. The Torre Garisenda (mentioned in Dante's Inferno) was too wide for its foundations and now leans so much that you cannot climb it.

  • Santo Stefano Church (1.5 km) - Bologna's Santo Stefano Church is a beautiful complex of four churches, all built at different times. The churches are 5th century Santi Vitale e Agricola (Bologna's oldest church), Crocefisso, the octagonal San Sepolcro and Trinita', which now houses a museum. All four are well worth a visit as are the characteristic Bolognese porticoes that line the surrounding streets.

  • San Petronio Church (0.99 km) - San Petronio Church in Bologna was intended to be bigger than Saint Peter's in Rome. Although a lack of funds meant that this did not materialise and that not even the façade was entirely finished, this should not stop you from having a look inside this fascinating Gothic church. The 22 side chapels are all elaborately decorated and the hole in the roof allows sun to shine down on the meridian line on the church floor and act as a sun dial.

  • Via Clavature (1.13 km) - Portico-lined Via Clavature is the place in Bologna to indulge in a spot of shopping. The street is lined with factory outlets shops and shops selling the excellent cuisine which Bologna is so renowned for. The surrounding area also houses an enticing market selling seasonal Bolognese specialities.

  • Bologna Jewish Museum (1.25 km) - Bologna's interesting Jewish Museum traces the history of Judaism from the origins to the present day. Located in the former ghetto, the museum also has special sections dedicated to Jews from Bologna and the region of Emilia-Romagna.

  • Bologna Archeological Museum (0.95 km) - The extensive archaeological museum in Bologna houses the best Etruscan collection outside the Italian Lazio region and contains artefacts found in tombs just outside Bologna. Also exhibited are excellent Greek, Roman and Egyptian collections and a section dedicated to over 100,000 coins from various periods.

  • Morandi Museum (0.98 km) - Morandi is one of Italy's most important 20th century artists and the Morandi Museum houses over 200 of his works. Paintings, watercolours, drawings and etchings all make up this excellent collection. There is also a section on Morandi's private collection and the museum also houses temporary exhibitions.

  • Bologna Teatro Comunale (1.46 km) - Bologna's Teatro Comunale is a spectacular venue that hosts both opera and symphony concerts. On the opera programme for this year are Rossini's Elizabeth, Queen of England and Verdi's MacBeth and Il Trovatore. In April one of the symphony concerts will feature a performance by the world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli.

  • Paracadutisti Bologna (1.1 km) - If you fancy hurtling out of a plane from 4000 metres, then the skydivers at Paracadutisti Bologna will be pleased to assist. After a brief training session, you can do a tandem sky dive with one of the experienced instructors, whilst another videos your reaction! You free fall for 2500 metres before the instructor opens the parachute. A must for extreme sports fans.
