Local Attractions near HC3 Hotel

  • Two Towers, Bologna (2.89 km) - Bologna's Two Towers are the symbol of the city. They were built as a result of a feud between two Bolognese families regarding who could build the highest. The Asinelli family won and you can climb the narrow steps right to the top of the leaning Torre Asinelli, from where the view of Bologna's re-topped roofs is stunning. The Torre Garisenda (mentioned in Dante's Inferno) was too wide for its foundations and now leans so much that you cannot climb it.

  • Bologna Jewish Museum (2.66 km) - Bologna's interesting Jewish Museum traces the history of Judaism from the origins to the present day. Located in the former ghetto, the museum also has special sections dedicated to Jews from Bologna and the region of Emilia-Romagna.

  • Bologna Gallery of Modern Art (1.74 km) - Bologna's innovative Gallery of Modern Art (GAM) is one of the most important modern art museums in Italy. Although the GAM actually owns over 3,500 works of modern art, much of the museum is given over to temporary exhibitions. There is also a section where various works of Contemporary Art are in regular rotation.

  • Bologna Archeological Museum (2.82 km) - The extensive archaeological museum in Bologna houses the best Etruscan collection outside the Italian Lazio region and contains artefacts found in tombs just outside Bologna. Also exhibited are excellent Greek, Roman and Egyptian collections and a section dedicated to over 100,000 coins from various periods.

  • Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna (2.62 km) - The Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna features many of the most important Italian Baroque artists. Other sections dedicated to Medieval and Renaissance art feature artists mainly from the Bolognese school. The highlights are the 14th century frescoes by Vitale da Bologna.

  • Bologna University (2.7 km) - Bologna is home to the oldest university in Europe. The beautiful porticoed buildings of the main complex, located at Via Zamboni, house most of the lecture rooms and the Erasmus office for foreign exchange students. The university also offers a summer school programme, including an Italian language course for foreigners.

  • Palazzo Poggi (2.45 km) - For something out of the ordinary, take a visit to Palazzo Poggi, home to Bologna's more unusual museums. Displayed in a Bologna University building, natural history is joined by taxidermy, obstetrics, geology, electricity and anatomical waxworks. The Bolognese medical school was the first in the world to use waxworks as educational aids, although some of the more bizarre of them were obviously also intended as artistic statements.

  • Bologna Teatro Comunale (2.65 km) - Bologna's Teatro Comunale is a spectacular venue that hosts both opera and symphony concerts. On the opera programme for this year are Rossini's Elizabeth, Queen of England and Verdi's MacBeth and Il Trovatore. In April one of the symphony concerts will feature a performance by the world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli.

  • Bologna Trade Fair (2.41 km) - Bologna Trade Fair is the premier exhibition space in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. Included in the 2005 programme are the food and drink exhibition Alimentarti and famous international Motor Show.

  • Motor Show, Bologna (2.41 km) - Bologna Motor Show is one of Europe's premier exhibitions in the automobile and motorcycle industries. The first couple of days are reserved for the press and professionals in the sector. Following this the show is open to the public, who can go and take a look at the latest models from the world?s major car and motorcycle manufacturers.
