  • Rome Christmas Market (1.85 km) - One of Rome's famous squares, Piazza Navone, plays host to the city's traditional Christmas markets. Amidst nativity scenes and Christmas decorations, stalls sell local festive crafts and produce, including strenne (Christmas branches traditionally exchanged among Romans) and Christmas foods such as torrone (nutty nougat) and cotton candy. The market also gives visitors the opportunity to see the Fountain of the Moor and the Fountain of Neptune, which stand at the northern end of the square and are some of Rome's most famous sights.

  • Palazzo Altemps (1.83 km) - Rome’s Palazzo Altemps is home to part of the excellent National Roman Museum (the other half is in Palazzo Massimo on the other side of the city). The museum is unmissable for enthusiasts of the Roman era, displaying a wealth of well-preserved life-size statues, ceramics, bronzes and mosaics found across the city. The palazzo is also decorated with Renaissance frescoes and paintings. Particularly worth a look are the elaborately sculptured tombs in the Sarcophagus Room, the frescoes in the Four Seasons room and the ceiling of the Loggia.

  • Castel Sant'Angelo (1.22 km) - Rome's Castel Sant'Angelo was originally the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, but was later converted into a castle by the Vatican authorities and has also been used as a prison. It is named after a Pope had a vision of the Angel Michael at the site. Located right by the River Tiber, it is worth a visit for its impressive exterior and the views across Rome from inside are excellent.

  • Vatican Museums (0.09 km) - The stunning Vatican Museums are absolutely unmissable on a trip to Rome. You pass through a maze of elaborately decorated rooms before reaching the most famous part of the museums, the Sistine Chapel. Although this is the highlight, there are many fabulous rooms to be seen including: the Museo Pio-Clementino, the Gallery of Maps and the Gallery of Tapestries, the Raphael Stanze (four rooms designed by the great Renaissance artist), the Borgia Apartments, the Museo Chiaramonti and the Pinacoteca art gallery.

  • Mausoleum of Augustus (1.9 km) - The Mausoleum of Augustus is the final resting place of the great Roman emperor and contains various passageways and a central crypt.

  • River Boats of Rome (1.27 km) - Battelli di Roma (River Boats of Rome) offer you the opportunity to see Rome from a different angle. They run circular tourist cruises with commentary from the jetty by Castel Sant’Angelo down through the heart of Rome to the pretty Isola Tiberina then back up to the Risorgimento Bridge. You can also take your pick from two dinner cruises and a wine cruise or take the pleasant trip from the Marconi Bridge to the excavations at the ancient Roman site of Ostia Antica. Battelli di Roma also run one-way trips from Isola Tiberina to the Flaminio Stadium (Italy’s national rugby stadium), with various stops on the way.

  • Piero Costantini Wine Shop (1.34 km) - Rome’s Costantini Wine Shop sells a variety of fine wines from all Italian regions. You can sample the wines at the Simposio in the centre of the city and book a visit to the vineyard at Villa Simone to see the finer points of wine production.
