Located on the banks of Venice's beautiful Grand Canal, the station is within easy reach of Lake Garda, Verona, Vicenza, Padua and Treviso. As a Eurostar hub, Milan, Florence and Rome are also easily accessible.

  • Venice Jewish Museum (0.45 km) - The interesting Jewish Museum of Venice is located in the Venetian district from where the word 'ghetto' arose. Ghetto sounds similar to the Venetian word for metal works, which was the prime purpose of the land until the Jewish population was forced to move there in 1516. The Jewish Museum contains artefacts relating to the history of the Ghetto.

  • Ca D'Oro (0.82 km) - The Ca D'Oro (Golden House) is one of the finest palaces on Venice's Grand Canal. Originally an aristocratic residence, it now houses the Franchetti Gallery, a collection of bronzes, paintings and sculpture. Inside, the views along the Grand Canal are excellent.

San Rocco is the finest of all the Venetian scuole (schools), whose main aim was to provide help to their wealthy members, but the heavy subscriptions paid allowed them to sponsor numerous works of art.

  • Squero Canaletto gondola workshop (0.53 km) - For a truly unique experience of Venice, head for the Squero Canaletto gondola workshop. Although actually run by an American, this gondola yard is keeping alive the tradition of gondola-making in Venice and is one of only three left in the city. On certain days, you can be taken on a tour of the workshop and the Squero even runs week-long courses during the year (see website).

  • Palazzo Grassi (0.95 km) - The beautiful waterfront Palazzo Grassi is home to some of Venice's most prestigious exhibitions. A Dalì exhibition has just closed and previous exhibitions include Picasso 1917-1924, the Etruscans, Leonardo and Venice and Futurism. Check the official website for the current programme.

  • Museum of Oriental Art (0.59 km) - Venice's Museum of Oriental Art is one of most important collections of Japanese art in the world. Housed in Ca' Pesaro on the Grand Canal, the museum exhibits Japanese armoury, weapons and lacquer work.

  • Venice Carnival (0.68 km) - During the Venice Carnival the locals and tourists parade in elaborate costumes and masks along Venice's narrow alleys and canals. Saint Mark's Square comes alive during the day and at night with parades and music. The packed Carnival programme also includes theatre and masked balls in other parts of Venice.
