Local Attractions near MSNRelais Fattoria il Bacio

  • Ponte Vecchio (25.2 km) - Florence's Ponte Vecchio bridge was once home to some of its citizens. These days the bridge that links the Uffizi galleries to Palazzo Pitti only houses jewellery shops. Artisans also line the narrow walkways and from the centre of the bridge you get a nice view of the Arno river.

  • Boboli Gardens (24.74 km) - The peaceful Boboli Gardens offer simply stunning views across Florence. Built by the Medici family at the back of their new residence Palazzo Pitti, the large gardens feature an amphitheatre, fountains and statues, not to mention the largest open space in central Florence. An oasis of green spreads up the hill to the Forte Belvedere, which sometimes houses art exhibitions.

  • Cappella Brancacci (24.86 km) - The astounding frescoes in Florence's Cappella Brancacci are among the finest in the world. Begun by Masolino and Masaccio and finished by Lippi, the brightly coloured frescoes detail 12 events in the life of Saint Peter. Some maintain that, in true Renaissance style, the faces of Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Alberti and Masaccio can be found among the onlookers.

  • Palazzo Corsini (25.24 km) - Walking through Palazzo Corsini you are immersed in the splendour of Florentine Renaissance life. Former home of the wealthy Corsini family, the use of perspective in the elaborate frescoes is astounding. The highlight of the palazzo is the Grotta, a lavish cave-like room surrounded on all sides by sculptures and paintings.

  • Palazzo Pitti (24.77 km) - Huge Palazzo Pitti holds no less than eight of Florence's museums. Former residence of the Medici family, who commissioned the Boboli Gardens behind the palazzo, many of their vast collection of paintings (including works by Raphael, Tintoretto and Lippi) are displayed in the opulent Galleria Palatina. Palazzo Pitti also houses Florence's Gallery of Modern Art, the Costume Gallery, the Carriage Museum and the Silver Museum.

  • San Miniato al Monte (25.09 km) - Florence's San Miniato al Monte church is the premier example of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany. The green and white marble façade inspired Alberti's design of the façade of Santa Maria Novella. Inside, works can be found by Italian masters such as Michelozzo, Luca della Robbia and Uccello. From here, the views across the red-topped roofs of Florence towards the Cathedral are spectacular.

  • Panzanello wine producers (16.6 km) - The Panzanello wine producers are located right in the heart of the Chianti wine-growing region. The four main wines they produce are the Chianti Classico, the Chianti Classico Riserva, Manuzio (red) and Tregaio (white) and they also produce an excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil. You can sample all their products at the vineyard farmhouse and even book a tour of the wine cellar where the classic wines are still maturing.

  • Collegiata (12.39 km) - The Cathedral of San Gimignano (called the Collegiata) can boast the most elaborate frescoes of any church in Tuscany. The frescoes detailing Biblical stories beginning with the Flood right through until the Last Judgement were painted by important artists such as Gozzoli and Taddeo di Bartolo. The Chapel of Saint Fina also houses a stunning fresco cycle by Ghirlandaio portraying the life of the saint. The piazza in front of the Collegiata is the favoured spot to start a walking tour of the beautiful medieval town of San Gimignano.

  • Civic Museum, San Gimignano (12.39 km) - The Palazzo del Popolo is the home of the excellent San Gimignano Civic Museum housing a wealth of Sienese and Tuscan art. Artists featured include Lippi, Taddeo di Bartolo and Pinturicchio and the museum also contains Lippo Memmi’s masterpiece Maestà. Most of the rooms in the palazzo are frescoed and the most notable are the hunting scenes in the Sala di Dante. Next to the Palazzo del Popolo is the Torre Grossa, the only one of San Gimignano’s remaining 14 towers (there were over 70) that you can climb and from where you have an excellent view over the town and the Tuscan countryside.

  • Museum of the History of Science, Florence (25.26 km) - Florence's interesting Museum of the History of Science is an important collection of historical scientific equipment. Among the exhibits collected by the Florentine Medici and Lorraine families are original telescopes, compasses and lenses used by Galileo. There are also some early electromagnetic and surgical instruments.
