Local Attractions near Hotel Flaminius

  • Teatro Olimpico Rome (8.5 km) - Rome's Teatro Olimpico captures the feel of the West End Musical theatres. Whilst musicals feature strongly on the programme (recently Fame and Hair have both had a run here), the theatre also hosts various plays and concerts. On the 2005 programme are Stomp, Carmen and Modern Times (by Charlie Chaplin)

  • Rome Tiburtina Station (10.18 km) - Located near to the La Sapienza university in the north of the city, Rome Tiburtina Station serves both local and national destinations and is on Metro line B. A regular train connects to Rome Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) airport, as does a night bus. Eurolines buses depart from opposite the station and smaller buses also serve regional destinations.

  • Spanish Steps (10.38 km) - The Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna) are at their best in the spring, when the steps leading up to the Trinita' dei Monti church are ablaze with colourful flowers. However, it is still worth a visit at other times of the year for its cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Keats-Shelley Museum is located on the piazza at the foot of the steps and the nearby Via del Corso and Via dei Condotti are good for shopping.

  • Keats-Shelley Memorial House (10.38 km) - The Keats-Shelley Memorial House is located right next to the Spanish Steps in Rome. John Keats spent the last few months of his life here and Percy Bysshe Shelley also lived in the house which is now a museum dedicated to both these Romantic poets. The museum houses numerous manuscripts, paintings and articles relating to the poets. There are also some exhibits relating to Byron, a poem by Oscar Wilde and some letters written by Wordsworth and Robert Browning.

  • Galleria Borghese (9.37 km) - Rome's Galleria Borghese is a fabulous museum comprised of a wealth of sculpture and important paintings. The sculpture dates back to both the Roman period and the Renaissance and the Pinacoteca (art gallery) holds works by Italian masters such as Raphael, Caravaggio, Perugino and Bernini.

  • Villa Giulia National Museum (9.02 km) - The Villa Giulia National Museum in Rome houses the principal collection of Etruscan artefacts in the world. There is an abundance of bronzes, tools, statues and mirrors, dating as far back as the 7th century BC, found within the ancient region of Eturia (the area covered by the present day regions of Tuscany, Umbria and northern Lazio) and others from further afield that have Etruscan influences.

  • Teatro Parioli (8.07 km) - The Teatro Parioli in Rome is home to the Maurizio Costanzo Show, the Italian equivalent of Parkinson. It is worth going to the show if you can get a ticket, if for no other reason than to marvel at the Italian broadcasting style. The theatre also stages various performances of modern productions throughout the year: the 2005 season will include Bravi a letto (roughly translated as In Bed with the Good People) in April and May.

  • Priscilla Catacombs (7.6 km) - Rome’s Catacombs of Priscilla (attached to the monastery of the Benedictines of Priscilla) are an ancient burial site in a stunning setting that house the bodies of 7 early Popes and many early martyrs.

  • Olympic Stadium, Rome (8.48 km) - Rome's Stadio Olimpico is home to the Serie A football teams Roma and Lazio. With matches almost every weekend during the football season, the 82,000 capacity means that, depending on the opponent, getting a ticket is not usually a problem. Also held here are concerts of both Italian and international artists.

  • Flaminio Stadium (8.19 km) - The Stadio Flaminio is home to Italy's Six Nations Rugby matches. Built for the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, the 42,000 capacity means that the atmosphere is cosy and rival fans often outnumber the home fans.
