Local Attractions near Hotel Villa Aurea Centro Benessere Antistress Psicoblu

  • Palazzo Cantucci (25.82 km) - Palazzo Contucci is a beautiful building that now houses one of the best wine cantine in Montepulciano. Located on the same square as the cathedral, the palazzo was designed by Sangallo (who built the walls and many other buildings in Montepulciano) and has some attractive frescoes. It is now home to the Cantucci Enoteca (wine shop) and is a great place to stop and sample and pick up a bottle of the famous Nobile di Montepulciano wine. From 25 September-1 October 2005 Palazzo Contucci’s Salone delle Feste will host a series of piano concerts by the American maestro Malcolm Bilson.

  • Montepulciano Springs (25.06 km) - The waters of the sulphurous springs at Montepulciano are well-known for their healing properties. The water is drawn directly from a source 132 metres below ground and never come into contact with air before reaching the spas, meaning that they are perfect for use in antiseptic, anti-catarrhal, anticonvulsant and antiallergic treatments. Some treatments are only available to holders of an Italian Department of Health prescription, but are there still many health and beauty treatments that are open to all, making this a great place for a spot of relaxation on your holiday.

  • Gattavecchi wine producers (26.13 km) - The Cantina Gattavecchi was one of the first wine producers to bottle the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The wine matures for 2 years in old barrels located in the old convent next to the church of Santa Maria dei Servi in Montepulciano and you can take a tour of this cantina and try some of the excellent wines (including the Vino Novile and the Montepulciano Rosso and Chianti) and olive oil produced by Gattavecchi (booking by fax preferred). They also offer menus that include local ham and cheese with the wine-tasting and will soon also offer tours of the vineyard.

  • Palazzo Vecchio wine producers (14.1 km) - The Palazzo Vecchio fattoria (wine producers) is a recent addition to the numerous vineyards of the Tuscan countryside. Originally inhabited by monks, wine-growing on the land surrounding the Palazzo only began in the 1950s. The current owners dedicated their energies to producing the famous Nobile di Montepulciano wine, which was first bottled here in 1990. Take a visit out to the fattoria to see the finer points of the wine-making process and to sample some of the excellent Vino Nobile.

  • Basilica of Saint Francis, Arezzo (24.66 km) - The basilica of Saint Francis in Arezzo houses the incredible frescoes by Piero della Francesca. After a period of restoration that has revealed many obscured details, the Cappella Bacci (where the frescoes are located) is once again open to the public. The frescoes are related to the theme of the True Cross and intermingle Biblical stories with historical figures: Adam and Solomon are followed by Emperors Constantine and Heraclius. A view of the city of Arezzo was even painted by Piero della Francesca to represent Jerusalem.

  • Vasari's House (25.13 km) - Vasari is perhaps less famous for his own works of art than for his lengthy biography of past Italian masters from the art world (The Lives of the Artists), but the museum at Vasari’s House will change that. Arezzo’s most famous son only lived here for 8 years, but during that time he succeeded in decorating the house with elaborate frescoes and paintings with help from students from his school. He also collected numerous works of art painted by his contemporaries (including some mannerist works), some of which remain in the museum today.

  • Sky Dive Tortuga (25.64 km) - Ever fancied hurtling out of a plane from 4500 metres? If so, a tandem jump with Sky Dive Tortuga is the way to do it! After about a minute of free-fall, the experienced instructor puts up the parachute and you can really enjoy the fantastic views over the city of Arezzo. To cap it all, your reactions will be captured on camera by another instructor.

  • Arezzo football stadium (22.85 km) - Italian Serie B football team Arezzo play at the Stadio Comunale. Matches are played at the 14,500 seater stadium almost every other weekend during the football season and tickets are usually fairly easy to come across (depending on the opponent).

  • Etruscan Museum (2.06 km) - Cortona’s Etruscan Museum houses an excellent collection of artefacts dating back to the 5th century BC. Of these, the prize exhibit is the Lampadario etrusco, a bronze lamp decorated with mythical creatures. The museum also has a small, but interesting Egyptian section and sections dedicated to Roman and Greek bronzes and ceramics. You can also book a guided tour of the museum which includes a visit to the Etruscan tombs outside Cortona.

  • Lake Trasimeno (15.72 km) - Lake Trasimeno, just outside Perugia, is the largest inland stretch of water in central Italy. With its 9 beaches, it is a great place to relax surrounded by the Umbrian hills. Around the lake there are various swimming pools, football pitches, tennis courts, horse riding centres and a golf course. The two main towns on the lake (Castiglione del Lago and Passignano sul Trasimeno) are nice places to talk a relaxed walk around or you could take a hike through nature in the rolling countryside. Lake Trasimeno also has three pretty islands that you can visit by boat: Isola Polvese, Isola Maggiore and Isola Minore.
