  • Cadorna Station (1.21 km) - Milan's Cadorna Station (Stazione Nord-Cadorna) is located just to the west of the city centre. The Milan Malpensa Express runs out of here and the station also serves various other towns in northern Lombardy.

  • Castello Sforzesco (0.9 km) - Located in the grounds of Parco Sempione, the stately Castello Sforzesco was the home of the important Renaissance court presided over by the Sforza family, the 15th century rulers of Milan. Now it is largely a shell, but it does house some of Milan's most important museums (Egyptian Museum, Prehistoric Museum and Ancient Art Museum) and counts Michelangelo's unfinished Pieta' among the exhibits. Behind the castle, there is also an arena and triumphal arch built by Napoleon before losing Milan to the Austrians.

  • La Scala Opera House (1.2 km) - The recently-restored La Scala Opera House in Milan is one of the world's finest opera houses and boasts many famous names among its performers. A Salieri (Mozart's arch enemy) opera was the first to grace the stage back in 1778, but these days the annual La Scala season begins on 7th December, the day of Milan's Festival of Saint Ambrose (Festa di Sant'Ambrogio). You can often come across last minute tickets, but if not, take a trip to the interesting La Scala Museum, which documents the history of the opera house and contains artefacts belonging to past stars and composers.

  • Milan fashion district (1.21 km) - Dedicated followers of fashion should not miss Milan's fashion district, known as the Quadrilatero d'Oro (The Golden Triangle). Its role as fashion capital of the world means that Milan is home to some of the elite designers including Giorgio Armani, Dolce and Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Valentino. The pretty Via della Spiga is definitely the place to go and do some celebrity-spotting.

  • Brera district (0.7 km) - Elegant cobbled streets line the once bohemian Brera district of Milan. These days, the area has become more elite and boasts a host of bars, restaurants and shops to suit all tastes. However, at night you can still find artists selling their wares in the street.

  • Bagatti-Valsecchi Museum (1.22 km) - Milan's Bagatti Valsecchi Museum is the extremely well-preserved 19th century residence of the Bagatti Valsecchi family. Located just north of the city centre in the Milan fashion district, the private collection contains furniture and art works from both the 19th century and the Renaissance. Among the elaborately decorated rooms, the Bevilacqua and Fresco Rooms stand out for their intricately sculptured decor.

  • Poldi Pezzoli Museum (1.11 km) - The Poldi Pezzoli Museum is an eclectic mix of clocks, armour, jewellery and artwork ranging in date from the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance and 18th century Venetian art. The museum was the home of 19th century Milanese collector Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli and houses paintings by, amongst others, Bellini, Botticelli and Piero della Francesca. Also worthy of note are the very impressive marble staircase and fountain just inside the entrance.

  • Museum of Art and Science (0.83 km) - Milan's unusual Museum of Art and Science makes for a fascinating stop. Here you can learn and try out practical techniques on how to distinguish an authentic work of art from a fake, using the latest scientific methods. The museum also houses 2000 exhibits in 18 rooms dedicated to African art, ceramics, paintings and furniture amongst others.
