Local Attractions near Hotel Grand'Italia

  • San Antonio Church (1.76 km) - The impressive exterior of Padua's San Antonio church is actually dwarfed by the interior. Saint Anthony's tomb lies amid spectacular Gothic architecture, murals and sculpture. The highlight is the highly intricate Chapel of Saint James.

  • Prato della Valle (2.07 km) - Padua's Prato della Valle is the largest piazza in Europe. It used to be a Roman theatre, but now a canal surrounded by 78 statues dominates the centre of the Prato. A huge Saturday market is held here, and there are also funfairs in the summer.

  • Giotto's frescoes, Scrovegni Chapel (0.57 km) - Giotto's spectacular frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel are unmissable on a trip to Padua. Michelangelo, Raphael and da Vinci all studied the incredibly well-preserved 14th century frescoes. The colours are so vivid that you will be mesmerised.

  • Padua University (1.59 km) - Padua University is the second oldest in Italy. On the walls of the university buildings you will see various sarcastic posters announcing a particular student's graduation. Among Padua University's claims to fame, Galileo used to teach physics there, Elena Piscopia became the first woman in the world to receive a degree (in 1678) there and it was the location of the first permanent anatomy theatre in the world. The Erasmus office for exchange students is at Via Oberdan.

  • Padua Botanical Gardens (1.93 km) - The World Heritage-listed Padua Botanical Gardens are the oldest in the world. Containing around 6000 different species, the oldest plant dates back to 1585 (40 years after its founding) and the Botanical Gardens are also notable for the architecture surrounding them.

  • Padovaland (6.21 km) - Padovaland is a large summer waterpark boasting both tame and stomach-in-your-mouth slides. The park also has the biggest wave pool in Europe, restaurants and a shopping complex.

  • Palazzo Leoni-Montanari (29.78 km) - Vicenza’s Palazzo Leoni-Montanari is home to an interesting collection of 18th century Venetian art and Russian icons. Former home of the Leoni Montanari family, the Baroque building contrasts sharply with the Palladian architecture that Vicenza is famous for.

  • La Rotonda, Vicenza (28.42 km) - Palladio's World Heritage-listed masterpiece La Rotonda in Vicenza is one of the finest examples of Italian Renaissance architecture. One of Europe's most imitated structures, it was intended to be an entertainment pavilion (rather than a farmhouse like his other villas). Step inside to view the elaborate frescoes and admire the view of the Vicenza countryside from the hill on which La Rotonda sits.

  • Vicenza football stadium (29 km) - The Stadio Romeo Menti is home to Italian Serie B side Vicenza. Matches are played almost every other weekend during the football season and the 21,000 capacity means that tickets are usually fairly easy to buy, depending on the opponent.

  • Teatro Olimpico Vicenza (29.7 km) - Vicenza's Teatro Olimpico is the oldest indoor theatre in Europe and is one of Italian architect Palladio's most innovative works. Opened in 1585, the theatre is still in operation and hosts themed Settimane Musicali (Musical Weeks).
