Local Attractions near Golden Tulip Mirage

  • Florence - Peretola Airport (0.71 km) - (FLR) Airport of Florence, Firenze.

  • Santa Maria Novella Station (3.9 km) - Santa Maria Novella is Florence's main train station. As a Eurostar hub, Milan, Venice and Rome are all easily accessible and it also serves other regional and national destinations. The bus for Florence airport also leaves from just outside the station.

  • Stibbert Museum (4.04 km) - If you are a fan of military memorabilia, then Florence's Stibbert Museum is the place for you. A tour guide takes you around the extensive collection of paintings, armoury, porcelain and costumes. The main attraction is the Sala della Cavalcata, which is a life-size reproduction of a confrontation between European and Islamic soldiers. You can also visit the Gardens, laid out in a typical English style.

  • Santa Maria Novella (4.13 km) - Florence's Santa Maria Novella was the earliest of the great Florentine churches to be built. The stunning Renaissance façade of the former Dominican headquarters is matched by the beautiful interior, which houses works by Renaissance masters such as Brunelleschi, Ghirlandaio and Lippi. Also worthy of note is the stunning Cappella Strozzi, which takes its inspiration from Dante's Inferno. Next to Santa Maria Novella is the church museum, worth a look for the vivid frescoes in the cloisters and trhe Spanish Chapel. Take time to relax in the piazza in front of the church, a favourite picnic spot for the Florentines.

  • Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (3.55 km) - The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino theatre in Florence is home to the world-class musical festival of the same name, held during May. The theatre also has a packed opera, ballet and concert programme during the rest of the year. Included on the 2005 programme are La Traviata, Turandot, Tosca and Don Giovanni.

  • Cappella Brancacci (4.28 km) - The astounding frescoes in Florence's Cappella Brancacci are among the finest in the world. Begun by Masolino and Masaccio and finished by Lippi, the brightly coloured frescoes detail 12 events in the life of Saint Peter. Some maintain that, in true Renaissance style, the faces of Botticelli, Brunelleschi, Alberti and Masaccio can be found among the onlookers.

  • Palazzo Corsini (4.42 km) - Walking through Palazzo Corsini you are immersed in the splendour of Florentine Renaissance life. Former home of the wealthy Corsini family, the use of perspective in the elaborate frescoes is astounding. The highlight of the palazzo is the Grotta, a lavish cave-like room surrounded on all sides by sculptures and paintings.

  • Florence by Bike (4.4 km) - To get back to nature in the Tuscan countryside stop off at Florence By Bike. You can either hire a bike or scooter and go off on your own on one of the suggested itineraries, or take the challenging, but extremely rewarding Chianti Bike Tour. Either way, you will see parts of Florence that most visitors do not get to see and sample some of the local wine in its natural environment.

  • Villa Petraia (3.41 km) - Villa Petraia is one of three opulent Medici villas within easy reach of each other. The villa, once part of an agricultural estate, was also a former residence of the Brunelleschi and Savoy families and has fabulous gardens that you can wander through. Just down the road is Villa di Castello, former home of Botticelli's Primavera and Birth of Venus (now in the Uffizi), which also has lovely gardens. The third villa is Villa di Careggi, where Lorenzo the Magnificent's Platonic scholars used to meet.

  • Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (3.55 km) - The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is the centre of musical life in Florence and is based at Teatro Comunale. It is the oldest Italian music festival and, on an international level, one of the most important. The festival features two months of opera, concerts, ballet and exhibitions.
