Local Attractions near B&B Il Marzocco

  • Santa Maria Novella Station (0.3 km) - Santa Maria Novella is Florence's main train station. As a Eurostar hub, Milan, Venice and Rome are all easily accessible and it also serves other regional and national destinations. The bus for Florence airport also leaves from just outside the station.

  • Medici Chapels (0.94 km) - The Medici Chapels are the jewel of San Lorenzo church in Florence. Michelangelo's New Sacristy (Nuova Sagrestia) is the highlight, containing the elaborately sculpted tombs of Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici, one of the most important families of the Italian Renaissance.

  • Santa Maria Novella (0.56 km) - Florence's Santa Maria Novella was the earliest of the great Florentine churches to be built. The stunning Renaissance façade of the former Dominican headquarters is matched by the beautiful interior, which houses works by Renaissance masters such as Brunelleschi, Ghirlandaio and Lippi. Also worthy of note is the stunning Cappella Strozzi, which takes its inspiration from Dante's Inferno. Next to Santa Maria Novella is the church museum, worth a look for the vivid frescoes in the cloisters and trhe Spanish Chapel. Take time to relax in the piazza in front of the church, a favourite picnic spot for the Florentines.

  • Gozzoli's frescoes (0.99 km) - Gozzoli's stunning frescoes in the Medici-Riccardi palace are among the most beautiful Renaissance works in Florence. Lining three walls of the Chapel of the Magi, the frescoes tell the Nativity story in vivid detail, with each wall dedicated to one of the Magi. In true Renaissance fashion, members of the Medici family (including Lorenzo the Magnificent) can also be seen among the procession.

  • Florence Accademia Art Gallery (1.1 km) - The impressive Galleria dell'Accademia is home to Michelangelo's Renaissance masterpiece David. The Accademia also houses other sculptures by Michelangelo, the Madonna of the Sea by Botticelli and numerous religious works by Florentine Renaissance artists. The museum has also recently acquired the Medici and Lorraine musical instrument collections.

  • Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (0.63 km) - The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino theatre in Florence is home to the world-class musical festival of the same name, held during May. The theatre also has a packed opera, ballet and concert programme during the rest of the year. Included on the 2005 programme are La Traviata, Turandot, Tosca and Don Giovanni.

  • Palazzo Corsini (1.01 km) - Walking through Palazzo Corsini you are immersed in the splendour of Florentine Renaissance life. Former home of the wealthy Corsini family, the use of perspective in the elaborate frescoes is astounding. The highlight of the palazzo is the Grotta, a lavish cave-like room surrounded on all sides by sculptures and paintings.

  • Bussotti Wine Shop (1 km) - The Bussotti Wine Shop in Florence is one of the oldest in Italy. Although it houses wines from all Italian regions, Tuscan wines are the main focus, including the classics: Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti and Nobile di Montepulciano. Bussotti also stocks a good selection of Italian spumanti and champagne, a variety of wines from around the world and typical Italian regional products such as Neapolitan limoncello and Tuscan olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

  • Florence by Bike (0.92 km) - To get back to nature in the Tuscan countryside stop off at Florence By Bike. You can either hire a bike or scooter and go off on your own on one of the suggested itineraries, or take the challenging, but extremely rewarding Chianti Bike Tour. Either way, you will see parts of Florence that most visitors do not get to see and sample some of the local wine in its natural environment.

  • Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (0.63 km) - The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is the centre of musical life in Florence and is based at Teatro Comunale. It is the oldest Italian music festival and, on an international level, one of the most important. The festival features two months of opera, concerts, ballet and exhibitions.
